Meet current Commonwealth Games dual Gold Medal winning triathlete Jodie Stimpson. Jodie has been a great friend of Buzz since she came to Morzine in 2013 to train as part of the D-Squad. This squad of professional triathletes spent the past 4 years based in Morzine from June till August, preparing for races all over the world.
We have been lucky to follow Jodie’s career closely and can remember fondly Jodie’s 1st WTS win in Kitzbuhel in 2013. We were also lucky enough to host the whole squad along with our guests in our chalet to watch Jodie’s epic victory in the 2014 Commonwealth Games Triathlon! Jodie has had 73 starts in ITU races winning on 14 occasions, 23 times finishing on the podium and finishing in the more times than not. Jodie is a champion athletes and champion person. Favourite training session? A track session, something like 800’s and 200’s I use to do with my old training partner Alieen Reid she would lead the 200’s and I would lead the 800’s.
Favourite piece of kit? Garmin watch , I’m a bit of a geek and I like looking at it when coming back form a long run or ride.
Best part about being a pro athlete? I get to do what I love for a job.
Hardest part about being a pro athlete? Being away from my family a lot.
Who do you look up to? Chrissie Wellington.
Greatest accomplishment? Commonwealth gold in the individual and relay.
Key to your success? Hard work and wanting to get the best out of myself and make my family and friends proud.
What got you started? My dad taught me to swim when I was 4 and then my dad and uncle took me to my first triathlon when I was 9.
What is the best advice you’ve even been given? What you do in training is what you will do in the race so don’t try any thing new race day.
Tell us something we don’t know about you? I am quite good at drawing cartoons.
Morzine has been a great training base for Jodie over the years and despite having just changed coaches due to Darren Smith’s retirement, Jodie has not ruled out spending some time in Morzine in the future! It was a pleasure to see Jodie flying around the lake or up the climb to Avoriaz and it’s safe to say the town would welcome her back with open arms anytime!
