It’s March, 2 months of the year have passed by already and we’re getting excited about the summer ahead, but we’re also conscious that the summer season is still a long road of twists and turns. We think this is an important point for all athletes and fitness enthusiasts to recognize.
While we are continuously striving to be the best we can be, it’s not realistic to be at the top of your game all the time.
If you haven’t already, now is a great time to set goals for the season ahead and make an action plan towards achieving those goals.
If you have your goals and your season planned, it can be a time to think about how your training is preparing you for those events.
And even though we are thinking about the summer, March can still be a time where cross training can still bring many benefits to the big picture. If you’re in a ski area like we are, make the most of the conditions still available for activities like downhill skiing, randonee, nordic skiing and snow shoeing.
If you have access to a pool, get there and swim. If you can walk or run, get out there and put one foot in front of the other. All activities of 45minutes or more are endurance activities and help build aerobic fitness and functional strength. Some intensity is good too, activities like Spinning and interval sessions on the turbo can help increase the functional threshold.
Whatever your chosen activity or activities, be in the moment and enjoy them. Know that what you do today can help you tomorrow and in another 3 to 6 month’s time.
